The Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) is a flagship initiative by the Government of India aimed at fostering entrepreneurship and generating self-employment opportunities. Implemented by the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME), this credit-linked subsidy scheme provides financial assistance to individuals and groups for setting up new micro-enterprises in both urban and rural areas.
The primary purpose of PMEGP is to create sustainable employment by promoting small businesses, reducing regional imbalances, and empowering individuals to contribute to the nation's economic development through self-reliance.
Offers a subsidy of 15% to 35% on project costs based on location and applicant category.
Offers loans of up to ₹50 lakh for manufacturing units and ₹20 lakh for service units.
Promotes self-employment opportunities in both rural and urban areas.
Focuses on supporting new ventures by individuals with innovative business ideas.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
For projects costing above ₹10 lakh in the manufacturing sector or ₹5 lakh in the service sector, the applicant must have at least passed the 8th standard.
